A few weeks ago I sold the Fuhlen Kailh Blue switch keyboard that I bought recently. It’s not because I didn’t like it but because I want to try something else.
As my previous posts, I do own a first generation CM Storm Quickfire Rapid with Cherry MX black switches and overtime the switches get stiff. I am not sure if that is a characteristic of the cherry mx blacks but I am sure it was not this stiff when I first bought it 3-4 years ago.
I got so used to it that the blues really felt so soft for my fingers. Do take note that I use my mx blacks on a daily basis at work that means 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
So I was at the mall last weekend and got the chance to test the following: cherry brown, green, black, red, and blue… and I am pretty sure when I tested the mx blacks they were not as hard as my current blacks.
I tried out the browns which I initially planned to get to replace the fuhlen (either cherry mx brown or gateron browns) but they again felt so soft for me and I did not feel the bump I am looking for when I press the keys.
The reds? Forget about it, I didn’t really like it in the first place.
Then I tested the cherry mx greens.. not only are clicks/bump/actuation more pronounced compared to the blues, they are louder as well but the most important thing I liked about is the BUMP… yes I can feel the bump and the resistance was not as soft as the blues and browns and a tad bit lower than my current blacks. I fell in love.
What I notice is that I like keyboards where the bump/actuation are pronounced. I have used membrane keyboards and most of them have this certain bump feeling when using. I do own a Rapoo membrane keyboard that feels like a laptop keyboard and I use it every once in a while (actually using it now typing this post since I have my QFR in the office) and I like typing in this keyboard I can really feel the bump/actuation.
I did find a good deal for a used but not abused CM Storm QFR Stealth with cherry mx greens and I settled on getting it… I did find that I don’t really pay too much attention with the RGB/Backlit feature of my Fuhlen. I only notice it when I am not really using the keyboard to type anything. It does feel like I am missing something when I use my QFR non backlit but then again I don’t really have enough dough to cash out for something that is RGB at the moment. There will always be another time for it.
